This project was completed in accordance with the 1998 Standard for Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping in B.C. and the 1998 Standard for Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping Digital Data Capture. The project includes two phases: the Central Okanagan which includes an area west of Okanagan Lake and east of city of Kelowna and the Central Okanagan South slopes which range along the southern boundary of the city. (The polygon spatial files and polygon attributes are presented as the two phases of the project. The Central Okanagan files are labelled COK, and the South Slopes are labelled COK_SS. All other files include both areas.) The study lies wholly within the Regional District of the Central Okanagan and falls within the following mapsheets: 082E073, 082E082, 082E083, 082E084, 082E092, 082E093, 082E094, 082L002, 082L003, 082L004, 082L013, and 082L023. There are two biogeoclimatic subzones within the study: the Okanagan Very Dry Hot Ponderosa Pine (PPxh1) and the Okanagan Very Dry Hot Interior Douglas-fir Variant (IDFxh1). The study area is located within the Southern Interior Ecoprovince and the North Okanagan Basin Ecosection (NOB). Wildlife Habitat Ratings and maps are developed for the following species: mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus), California bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis), badger (Taxidea taxus), Townsend's big-eared bat (Corynorhinus townsendii), Western Screech-owl (Otus kennicottii), Lewis' Woodpecker (Melanerpes lewis), Flammulated Owl (Otus flammeolus), Northern Pacific Rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus), painted turtle (Chrysemys picta) and gopher snake (Pituophis catenifer). A Sensitive Ecosystems Inventory theme was derived from the TEM mapping.
