Abstract: In 1975, the British Columbia Ministry of Forests began a program of ecosystem description, classification, and mapping. From 1975 to the present, more than 15 000 sample plots described vegetation, soils, and site characteristics following the methodology most recently described in Luttmerding et al. (editors, 1990). Many of the data from these plots were used in ecosystem classification and mapping, and have been reported in published reports and field guides (e.g., http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfd/pubs/Docs/Srs/SRseries.htm). However, mensuration data collected from plots sampled between 1977 and 1981 have not previously been analyzed or reported. These mensuration data from late seral and old-growth forests provide stand structure data for site series described in the biogeoclimatic ecosystem classification (BEC). This Working Paper reports on a project that addressed the following objectives: - to gather all available mensuration data collected during the development of British Columbia 's (BEC) .into a cleaned, EcoBase-compatible database; and - to analyze the above mensuration data for site series statistics on: - tree diameter class distribution (live and dead), - tree species diversity, and - stems per hectare (live and dead).
