This brief report brings together and reviews information concerning the red alder (Alnus rubra Bong.) resource in Coastal British Columbia. The literature review concentrates mainly on 1978 to 1990, but some major earlier works were included where pertinent. A variety of public and private sources were consulted to identify the current status of inventory information, management information and the utilization situation. Future information needs and research are suggested and discussed.
