Research and development in computer-based models for allocating resources in silviculture programs has been conducted at the University of British Columbia in the Faculty of Forestry and the Forest Economics and Policy Analysis Unit (FEPA), as well as at several locations of Forestry Canada and the B.C. Ministry of Forests. These models range from regional simulation models and forest level optimization tools, to stand level spreadsheet calculators. The objectives of this workshop were threefold: to familiarize both the modellers and the client group representatives who are responsible for facilitating research in this field and being liaisons between modellers and decision-makers; to facilitate exchange of information and ideas amongst these individuals; and, to encourage continued discussions amongst the participants.
