This report describes results of a 2-year project to investigate some of the factors affecting the regeneration, growth, and development of white spruce (Picea glauca) under aspen or balsam poplar (Populus spp.) canopies in the Boreal White and Black Spruce Biogeoclimatic Zone near Fort Nelson B.C. Five upland sites and one alluvial site with white spruce under aspen or balsam poplar were sampled and described for vegetation, soil temperature, soil moisture, soil nutrients, white spruce foliar nutrients, and site index.
