Abstract: The Nimpkish River is a 6th order stream with a total drainage area of approximately 2250 km2. The watershed lies at the northern end of Vancouver Island and drains into Broughton Strait directly south of Cormorant Island/Alert Bay, BC. The watershed lies almost entirely within Canadian Forest Product?s Tree Farm License #37, Englewood Logging Division. The entire Nimpkish watershed is within the traditional territories of the 'Namgis First Nation. A partnership of Canadian Forest Products Limited (CFP), the 'Namgis First Nation and the International Woodworkers of America (IWA) are restoring the Nimpkish River Watershed (TFL#37) under the auspices of the Nimpkish Resource Management Board (NRMB) Watershed Based Fish Sustainability Plan (WBFSP). The Forest Investment Account (FIA), administered by Price Waterhouse Cooper, currently funds the instream restoration program (with additional funding provided by DFO and the Pacific Salmon Endowment Fund) that was started under the Watershed Restoration Program (WRP) in 1995 and, more recently, the Enhancing Environmental Values Program (EEVP). The program has included road and slope stabilisation and rehabilitation, road deactivation, lake and stream fertilisation, and stream channel and fish habitat restoration. This report describes the 2005 New Project Construction at Yookwa Creek, 2005 In-stream and Lake Fertilization Programs, and 2005-06 Site Monitoring of some of the more than 800 individual instream project sites (in 13 sub-basins) constructed in the Nimpkish River watershed since 1997. The 2005 composite report contains 4 parts: Part A: 2005 Instream Construction (Yookwa Site YK1LWD1 & YK1DJ1) Part B: 2005 Lake Fertilization Program Part C: 2005 Stream Fertilization Program Part D: 2005 Monitoring (conducted in February 2006). ALBY Systems Ltd. and Northwest Hydraulic Consultants Ltd.
