The main objective of the snow survey is to collect base-line snow depth, snow density (i.e., water equivalent), and associated field observations prior to harvesting Block 17. This data is intended to support a long-term snow hydrology study led by Dr. Dan Moore of UBC on the effects of large blocks in interior plateau environments. Pre-harvest data collection has been ongoing since 2000 and is planned to continue until harvesting occurs within the next 1 to 2 years. Following harvesting, the snow course locations would be re-established and a number of surveys would be conducted annually for a minimum of 5 years post-harvesting.
