Abstract: This field guide is comprised of two basic components. The first deals with the assessment of the inherent sensitivity of a site to degradation, involving concepts and methods to assess the risk of four major site degrading processes - compaction, displacement, surface erosion and mass wasting. Definitions, controlling factors and a hazard assessment key are provided for each process. The second component presents a range of strategies for tailoring harvesting prescriptions to minimize site degradation.
