A partnership of Canadian Forest Products Limited (CanFor), Namgis First Nation and the International Woodworkers of America (!WA) are restoring watersheds within the Nimpkish River basin (TFL 37) with funding supplied by the Forest Investment Account (FIA). This program, initially funded by Forest Renewal B.C. (FRBC) under the supervision of the Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection (MWLAP) for instream projects and the Ministry of Forests (MOF) for upslope and road projects, has been working in the watershed since 1997. A substantial amount of work has been completed to date including road and slope stabilisation and rehabilitation, road deactivation, and stream channel and fish habitat restoration. The instream portion alone has been responsible for the construction of over seven hundred individual structures in thirteen sub-basins within the watershed. This report - broken into three parts - describes the instream portion of the restoration activities carried out in the valley in 2002. Part A describes the 2002 maintenance and construction of instream works completed at thirteen sites in the valley. Part B outlines the 2002 monitoring while Part C reports the instream fertilization program carried out in 2001 and 2002.
