Abstract: P&T?s objective of the monitoring and maintenance program is to protect investments on TFL 23 non-status roads that were deactivated under the 2002 FIA program. Included in the program are deactivated roads in the Batys Community Watershed near Trout Lake, BC and the branch roads off East Mosquito Road in the Mosquito watershed. The goal of the project is to ensure that structures are functioning effectively and to identify and treat potential environmental risks. In the past Pope & Talbot had undertaken routine monitoring and maintenance of non-status forest roads that were deactivated under the FRBC program. The intent of the monitoring and maintenance was not to carry out effectiveness evaluation but rather to inspect past works on a routine basis to ensure that the prescribed work was maintained. Inspections were carried out following the spring freshet one to two seasons after the deactivation was completed. Seasonal road maintenance inspection forms were used to track monitoring activities. Required maintenance was then carried out. This monitoring and maintenance program links to Pope & Talbot?s Environmental Management System (EMS).
