Abstract: The question that many fire managers and foresters are currently asking is whether British Columbia has similar issues relevant to wildfire damage as does the United States. The current fuels and fire management dilemma that we now face in BC can be attributed to a lack of public awareness, and our poor understanding of ecological change associated with resource management practices over the past 50 years. This study attempts to address two key questions: 1) What is the potential scale of the fuels problem in British Columbia? and 2) What is the potential risk to human life, property and forest resources? To answer these questions we utilized an analysis framework developed in the U.S. that linked Historic Natural Fire Regimes to Condition Class.
