Abstract: A gap analysis of existing vegetation data from fire-initiated stands was completed by Timberline Forest Inventory Consultants in 2002 and this analysis identified several site associations in the PG TSA where baseline plant diversity index data is required (Bernier and Smyth, 2002). See Appendix 1 for a key to the grouped site associations that are used by CanFor to monitor plant diversity. Timberline's plant diversity gap analysis report identified 10 grouped site associations requiring additional vegetation data from fire-initiated stands (baseline plots) to establish baseline plant diversity indices. The minimum number of baseline plots required before additional statistics can be generated is presented in Table 1. This table differs slightly from the table presented in Timberline's 2002 report because four additional vegetation plots, that are appropriate for determining plant diversity values, were located in a 2003 CanFor plant diversity related project (Timberline, 2003). Due to the infrequent nature of fire-initiated (baseline) stands, an initial mapping exercise to locate potential fire-initiated stands was recommended. Timberline Forest Inventory Consultants Ltd.
