A Breeding Bird Survey project in Tree Farm Licence 14 (Tembec Industries Inc.) was initiated in 1999 to provide long-term monitoring of the distribution and relative abundance of forest birds throughout the TFL. TFL #14 encompasses approximately 151,000 hectares in the rocky Mountain Forest District (Kootenay region) in the Southern Interior Mountains Ecoprovince. This report presents results of the sixth year (2004) of the monitoring project. Sixty-seven bird species were detected. four new species were detected. Subject to the availability of funding, a comprehensive analysis of detection data for all six years will be carried out later in the 2004/2005 fiscal year, and a major report will be produced prior to the end of March 2005.
