Abstract: The Fish and Fish Habitat Inventory conducted on the Streams in TFL 5 identified the culvert in this creek as a barrier to fish. The existing crossing structure ( Photo 2) functioned for the passage of water, but did not allow fish passage as the culvert outlet is higher than the streambed. The Tako Road is a road permit held by Weldwood of Canada Ltd in TFL 5. The road dates back to around the early1970s and is believed that the age of the existing structure (culvert) is around that time as well. The culvert restricts safe fish passage as the culvert outlet is higher than the stream bed, preventing safe passage for fish. There has been no previous work carried out at this site related to fish passage. The decision to restore safe fish passage is based on the stream being assessed as moderate habitat value for fish, and the ability to provide fish access to over 2 new km of habitat. This stream is also a direct tributary to Saunders Creek, which is classed as high spawning and rearing habitat. The priority rank score according to the Fish Passage Culvert Inspection Procedures is 42.
