Lodgepole pine stands often regenerate to very high densities after wild fire. An initial screening of the Williams Lake, Quesnel, and 100 Mile TSA?s by the Timber Investment Strategy Committee (1996) found over 130,000 ha of lodgepole stands with site indices of 7 m or less, and are not considered as part of the timber harvesting land base. As part of the Cariboo Timber Investment Strategy, the Ministry of Forests and forest licensees deemed it a high priority to return these forest types to timber production.
