A long-term project on marten/forestry relationships was mandated as one of three wildlife study priorities in the Final Recommendations document produced by the Planning Table for the Okanagan Shuswap LRMP (October 2000). The general aim of the proposed project, as elaborated in Section 7.1 of the LRMP document, was to '...develop and initiate an operational inventory and monitoring program that will examine the effectiveness of managing various forest attributes on the maintenance and enhancement of marten populations within managed forest'. The specified intent was that trappers, government managers and forest licensees would work co-operatively in designing and implementing that program.
