Western Forest Products is a participant in the Salal Cedar Hemlock Integrated Research Program, SCHIRP. The approved 2005-06 FSP project includes the commitment to deliver a workshop and field tour to extend the research findings to data. To meet this commitment, the workshop and field tour scheduled for May 31 and June 1 in Port McNeill was delivered. A third day at Campbell River to examine the STEMS site was also included.
In the past year, Western Forest Products has contracted B.A. Blackwell and Associates to examine the ecosystem classification and identification of SCHIRP and related sites. Funding for this work included FIA Land-Base Investment Program as well as our own funds, and is separate from the approved FSP workplan. To maximize the benefit of the workshop and realize the investment in the work done by B.A. Blackwell and Associates, they were included on the agenda.
