This project will enhance our understanding of complex stands, especially how the relationship between growth and light is affected by N availability. This research will offer guidance on management issues such as the choice of silvicultural systems for different site series, and choice of appropriate tree species for reforestation in partial cut stands. This research will strengthen the assumptions used in growth models of mixed stands and improve the predictions of stand composition and productivity over time. Improved model predictions of forest growth following partial cutting will avoid future errors in yield estimates and allowable annual cut predictions.
