The draft Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) Plan has been written to include criteria, indicators and targets that address the environmental, economic and social aspects of forest management for areas that are managed by Mill & Timber Products.
These forests are found in the South Central Coast of British Columbia and have recently been the subject of much discussion in the Province focused on the completion of the Land and Resource Management Plan for the Central Coast and the setting of new Land Use Objectives. The Land Use Objectives support the implementation of ecosystem-based management to maintain ecosystem integrity and improve human well-being. The Province of British Columbia is monitoring the effects of ecosystem-based management to ensure the desired effects are attained. Mill & Timber?s goal is to maintain an appropriate balance of social, economic and environmental benefits across the forests they manage and to support the local communities where they work.
This draft SFM Plan has been written to meet Sustainable Forestry Initiative certification (SFIŽ 2010-2014 Certification Standard). Following completion of the SFM Plan and ongoing implementation an Environmental Management System (EMS) Mill & Timber will be able to apply for registration of the operating area under the SFIŽ Standard.
