The purpose of this report is to recommend to the Boone & Crockett Club of North America a separate trophy status category for Ovis canadensis californiana and Ovis canadensis canadensis. This recommendation is based on a thorough examination of taxonomy, population trends, management practices, harvest control and compulsory inspection. It is supported by all states and provinces that manage these subspecies and by all nongovernment agencies associated with wild sheep in North America. Most importantly, this concept is supported by the Northern Wild Sheep and Goat Council, a group of over 150 wildlife biologists associated with the research and management of wild bovid populations.
