Roughly 34,000 marked steelhead fry (0.86g) were released in the Little Chilcotin River on August 27, 1982. Post stocking assessment was conducted October 3 to 5, 1982. Results indicated a saturation fry density of 1.62 fry/m of stream edge (3.24 fry/m of stream). Hatchery fry comprised 88% of all fry captured. Mean fork length increased to 49.7 mm from the release size of 42.2 mm, while mean weight increased to 1.26g from 0.86g. Relative growth was poor, as indicated by a low growth slope (Gs x 1000 = 3.4). Potential size of hatchery introductions at second annulus formation, and potential age of hatchery smolts are predicted using growth formulae. Potential future fry stocking rates and maximum fry requirements of the Little Chilcotin River are discussed.
