To monitor and evaluate the hatchery steelhead program at Big Qualicum River, the Fish and Wildlife Branch has conducted creel census during the past two winter steelhead seasons. As an adjunct to the census, other biological investigations have also been undertaken. These include scale analyses to determine life history patterns of wild versus hatchery steelhead, assessments of smolt to adult survival and angler exploitation, analysis of catch composition and patterns, and observations on adult distribution and spawning. The following is a report of the results of the 1976-77 program.
