Abstract: The Adam River mainstem was fertilized with inorganic nutrients as part of a 7-year project to examine the feasibility and effectiveness of low-level fertilization as a method of increasing the growth and abundance of resident trout populations in an oligotrophic stream within a logged watershed. Pre-fertilization monitoring was conducted for two years (1992-93) followed by addition of liquid ammonium polyphosphate (10-34-0; N-P2O5-K20) and urea-ammonia nitrate (28-0-0;N-P203-K20) liquid fertilizers during the growing seasons (June to September) of 1994-96. In each year, field measurements of water flow, temperature, nutrient concentration, chlorophyll a accrual, benthic invertebrate biomass, and fish abundance, growth, and age distribution took place throughout the river. In the third year of fertilization (1996), growing season river flows and water temperatures ranged between 0.95-9.1m3/sec and 6-21ºC, respectively, similar to previous years. Fertilization addition rates were auto-adjusted to river flow us
