The purpose of this report is to assist district Landscape Unit (LU) planning teams in inventory and tracking of biodiversity values during the LU planning process. These recommendations do not change the existing policy direction or Landscape Unit Planning Guideline rules that are in place to ensure that timber interests are addressed in implementation of LU planning. However, this document will help LU planning teams track conservation values by systematically (1) inventorying old growth-associated biodiversity values within landscape units at the start of the LU implementation; (2) documenting those biodiversity values captured and not captured under the current policy framework to enable Statutory Decision Makers to be fully aware of potential benefits and risks associated with establishing Old Growth Management Areas (OGMAs); and (3) providing an information base for district and regional review of biodiversity values within OGMAs and a means to identify gaps in biodiversity conservation.
