Abstract: A partnership of educational institutions evaluated and monitored selected projects supported by the Urban Salmon Habitat Program (USHP) on the east side of Vancouver Island, B.C. Students collected data according to USHP standards, and presented their findings at a colloquium in March 1998. Our results indicate that project participants misunderstood many restoration concepts. This led to much unusable data. As far as community/educational restoration projects go, a clear understanding of concepts and protocols is necessary for success, and hence recovery of endangered species and their habitats.
