Abstract: The following report presents a preliminary assessment of rehabiliation possibilities for Round (La Croix) and Tyhee (MacClure) Lakes near Smithers. It stems from the request of M. R. Whately that the Habitat Improvement Section have a quick look at the lakes while a crew was in the Smithers area on other business. Field activities involved only a single afternoon (July 12, 1978) driving around the lakes, seeking out tributaries and other potential problem sites, and investigating possible coars fish barrier sites on the outlet streams. Field observations have been widely supplemented by map and aerial photograph interpretation (nature of tributaries, areas of swamps, etc.), B.C. Fish and Wildlife Branch lake inventory files, and recent reports on the two lakes by Shepard and Algard (1977). As indicated above, both lakes are known by two names. The names Round and Tyhee have been used here, consistent with MTS 1:50,000 topographic maps 93 L/11 W and 93 L/10 E (Figs. 1, 4).
