Abstract: A profile of the skills requirements for British Columbia’s Watershed estoration Program (WRP), an initiative supported by Forest Renewal B.C., has been developed. It considers the restoration activities of each level of worker undertaking WRP activities on hillslopes, roads, gullies, riparian areas, stream channels, and fish habitat. Skills requirements were identified by workshop participants from the required areas of expertise, who listed job skills for each task in five worker levels (project leaders, professional scientists, technicians, forest workers, and machine operators). Lists of skills were cross-referenced to a database of restoration-related courses (WILMA), containing approx. 1,200 course offerings in B.C., within 29 subject categories. Immediate course gaps were identified, and numerous recommendations are presented to enhance the delivery of WRP and to support the Forests Practices Code.
