Assessment of juvenile steelhead in the Chilko/Chilcotin River system has been conducted by F.I.U. since 1981. Initial sampling was directed at a carrying capacity assessment of steelhead in the Chilko River (Tredger, 1982a). Annual fry population monitoring has been conducted in the Chilko River since that time (Tredger, 1982b; Yaworski and Tredger, 1983; Tredger, 1984). Despite this sampling effort, the capacity of the Chilcotin River system to produce steelhead remains somewhat poorly defined. This is in large part due to lack of data from the mainstem Chilcotin River (e.g. Tredger and Sebastian, 1984).
