The Dean River, approximately 450 air miles northwest of Vancouver and 60 miles up the Dean Channel from Bella Coola, supports one of the largest natural runs of summer steelhead in North America (Fig. 1). The superb fishing and the aesthetics of isolated wilderness attract fishermen from Canada, the United States, Europe and Japan.
