The growth rates of newly-emerged kokanee fry reared at ambient conditions of temperature and food in net pens in the West Arm of Kooteny Lake were 3.5-4.9% per day during two 20-day experiments. Kokanee fry reared under the same regime of temperature at a series of fixed rations (4-32% body weight/day) at the Meadow Creek hatchery had maximum daily growth rates of 2.4% at excess rations. The growth of hatchery-reared fry generally increased with increasing rations except that fry did not gain weight at the 4% ration. The early growth of kokanee fry in the West Arm did not appear to be adversely affected by recent decreases in nutrient loadings to the lake.
