This the second publication of the wildlife habitat handbook program and is intended for use by a wide audience. The purpose of this report is to provide a standard taxonomic classification and coding for vertebrates (excluding fish) for use in British Columbia. The standard taxonomic list has been reviewed by all members of the Habitat Handbook Steering Committee. Outside review has been provided by R.W. Ritcey and W.T. Munro. The taxonomic codes are already used in the British Columbia Nest Records Scheme and will be used in the wildlife habitat handbook computerized data base. It is anticipated that this report will be accepted as the standard reference for nomenclature for further provincial publications.
