In May, 1979, the British Columbia Minister of Environment and the Canada Minister of Fisheries and Oceans announced their decision to develop a Squamish Estuary Management Plan. They directed that a Planning Committee be established to prepare the Plan and that it include representatives of the federal, provincial and municipal governments and private industry. An independent consultant, Mr. W. Winston Mair, was appointed to review the report of the Planning Committee and advise the two Ministers.
