Abstract: With increasing human pressures on the natural environment, resource management plans must be based on an understanding of the ecosystems of the province. Through an ecologically based classification system, land use planners have the ability to develop effective land use plans that incorporate an understanding of the cumulative effects of multiple resource use. The broad ecosystem classification is an ecologically based framework that provides an ecosystem perspective for resource management.
