These are only some of the questions that must be answered. To set about finding the answers as quickly as possible the British Columbia Game Department began a steelhead research programme. The work began in 1948, and a report was issued entitled “Preliminary Survey of the Steelhead of the Lower Fraser River" the following year. Since that time the investigation has been continued, and a second report was issued in 1950 outlining some of the results to that date. The purpose of this report is to explain in a general way just how the steelhead investigation has been carried on, and to indicate some of the difficulties involved in obtaining the needed information.
