Abstract: Humankind's emissions of halocarbons have caused a serious thinning of the Earth's natural sunscreen - the ozone layer. Stopping ozone layer depletion is one of the major challenges facing the world today. For the ozone layer is truly a conserver of life, essential to the survival of all living things. This report examines the key issues surrounding ozone depletion: the science, the impacts, and the mitigation measures - both those that are already being carried out by governments across the world and those that should be adopted in the near future. The focus is on British Columbia, especially with respect to current and future mitigation measures.
