The goal established in 1989 for solid waste reduction in British Columbia was to reduce the provincial per capita disposal rate by the year 2000 to 50% of the 1990 rate. The main purpose of this report is to present British Columbia's progress towards this goal. It concludes that the provincial disposal rate was 0.618 tonnes per capita, representing a 29.7% reduction. The document also lists other ways in which British Columbia has gained and lost in recycling and waste reduction rates.
