Abstract
This report presents the findings of a study initiated by the British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources and funded by CANMET through the Canada British Columbia Mineral Development Agreement to compile and critically review research pertaining to molybdenum in the environment and its implications to mine decommissioning. The findings of this report represent the joint efforts and cooperation of members of the British Columbia mining industry and professionals in the fields of soil science, agricultural science, animal nutrition, fisheries and aquatic toxicology, water chemistry, geochemistry and geology. This report presents a review of published scientific literature, and non-published studies conducted by British Columbia mines and government agencies to assess soil and water conditions, both in the natural state and after mining disturbances with reference to factors influencing molybdenum uptake in plants, fish, ungulates and wildlife and differences in species tolerance of molybdenum.
