Title
Report on British Columbia's Progress Toward Sustainability
Author
Hodge, Tony
Date
1997
Abstract
This report is intended to carry forward the public discussion of the issue of sustainability. As noted in the report, monitoring and assessing sustainability are new and complex undertakings. This project sets out to demonstrate an approach to assessing the nature and significance of change in British Columbia. It attempts to place today's immediate concerns in a long-term context; it considers British Columbians in the context of the complex set of ecosystems that comprise British Columbia. The report draws on two principal conclusions: British Columbia is borderline between sustainable and unsustainable; and British Columbia's capacity to monitor, assess and report on change and sustainability is weak and fragmented.
