Abstract
The Land and Resource Management Planning (LRMP) process provides strategic direction for land use decisions and integrated resource management in the Province of British Columbia. Resource analyses support planning and decision-making in the LRMP process. A key component of these analyses are environmental indicators. Indicators are analytic tools that measure the existing state of resources, provide the basis for comparative assessments of management plans and monitor progress toward the achievement of management objectives. This report is intended to provide background information and guidance to ministry staff, sector representatives and other groups or individuals who will apply environmental indicators during LRMP resource analyses. The document provides a general overview of environmental indicators, reviews six recent regional and sub-regional planning processes, and identifies potential indicators for MELP mandate resources. A general process for selecting appropriate LRMP environmental indicators is also provided.
