Abstract
Due to expected development, there is a need for more current information on water quality and sources of contamination in the Halfmoon Bay area. Currently there are three permitted sewage effluent discharges to Halfmoon bay and one to outer secret cove. Low-density residential development has increased in the area and many onsite septic systems are now at an age where performance may be questionable. There are currently four marine shellfish growing closures in the study area. In addition, the Sunshine Coast Regional District is developing a Liquid Waste Management Plan for the area. Information from this study would be part of a wider inventory conducted in Halfmoon bay by various stakeholders and be used as a planning tool to make the best-informed decisions to protect the resources of Halfmoon Bay and area.
