Pink Mountain Caribou Monitoring Project Project No. PEA-F18-W-2306  2019  From 2017 to 2019 the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD) undertook a caribou program in two different areas, Pink Mountain and East Williston. Supported by the Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program (FWCP), the Province and other sources, these two distinct areas used distinct methods. The Pink Mountain program monitored collared caribou in an already designated herd boundary, while the East Williston program was a collaborative project with the Tsay Keh Dene where traditional knowledge led the search for caribou in an undesignated area. The Pink Mountain caribou were monitored by multiple fixed wing telemetry flights to gain location information on VHF collared caribou. Satellite-collared caribou were also monitored throughout this same time period, allowing for more detailed location information on the same herd. Location information of collared caribou provided data for the refinement and confirmation of effectiveness of the newly designated Ungulate Winter Range (UWR) 9-005.  wsi_6043_rpt_2017-2019.pdfSecure
