The Columbia River drainage in British Columbia has been significantly altered by dams built on the major rivers and some of their tributaries for hydroelectric power production and flood control. The Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program (FWCP) has undertaken a project to quantify footprint impacts of these dams on fish and wildlife in the basin.

The purpose of this report is to:
- review kokanee distribution within the basin,
- summarize life history traits in relation to potential limiting factors,
- summarize footprint impacts likely to affect kokanee,
- assess the status of individual populations (by dam unit) before and after dams, and
- provide compensation options and estimated costs, and recommended performance measures where populations have declined.
