Clear Creek (provincial watershed code 430-465300) is a tributary to the Kitsumkalum River, located in the Skeena watershed of British Columbia. Degraded fish habitat had a noticeable impact on salmonid populations and Clear Creek was therefore identified as a suitable tributary for habitat restoration efforts as part of the Kitsumkalum Watershed Restoration Project in 1995. Construction of the Clear Creek Eastern Side Channel (ESC; GPS coordinates: 54.86697128193147, -128.76866190469778) was completed in 2000 to provide increased juvenile rearing habitat and adult spawning habitat for coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kitsutch). However, since 2000 the site has not been maintained and beaver activity and sedimentation were suspected to have blocked fish accessibility to large portions of the ESC. We conducted weekly minnow trapping efforts in the ESC and Clear Creek to determine juvenile fish accessibility and habitat usage throughout the site during the winter of 2023 (January-April).
