While conservation field staffs primary responsibility is to fulfill the objectives specified in the annual Kootenay Conservation Land Operations and Maintenance Plan, there were also other opportunities built into the work plan. These opportunities facilitate networking and work experience with local biologists and conservation groups which aid in preparation for careers in the environmental field. This aspect of the program is a very important component of NTBCs mentoring initiative, and has been since the early 2000s. A variety of projects were implemented in 2024-25 on NTBC and WLRS conservation complexes in the East and West Kootenays, which are outlined below. Work activities undertaken on the various conservation areas contributed to important on the ground conservation efforts that address specific actions within the FWCP Upland and Dryland Action Plan.
