Results from a field program to collect data and revise the water budget for the Mill Bay aquifer are presented.

Author:  Klaus Rathfelder, Julie-Ann Ishikawa, Jon Goetz, and Robin Pike

Date Published:  Jul 2026

Report ID:  65148

Audience:  Government and Public

This report discusses the results of a short-term field program to improve understanding of groundwater-surface water interactions in the Mill Bay aquifer area. This report presents results from: 1) hydrometric measurements at key locations to quantify baseflow, characterize baseflow patterns, and identify gaining and losing reaches; 2) monitoring of water levels in shallow piezometer transects and monitoring wells to assess the direction and magnitude of interactions; and, 3) monitoring stream temperature and specific conductivity. Information was used to update a groundwater budget for the surficial aquifer in Mill Bay, and to refine and update the groundwater budget in support of resource management.
