The conference, which was chaired by Councillor Joanne Monaghan, Chair of the UBCM Environment Committee, was a further step in building a partnership between the UBCM and the ministries. Its purpose was two-fold: to provide a forum to discuss the principles and processes for sharing environmental responsibilities between the Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks and local governments; and to discuss specific environmental protection initiatives and programs.
