Abstract: The publication of Canada Land Inventory Report No. 4, Land Capability Classification for Forestry, has rP.sulted in a large number of requests for copies of a report which details the guidelines for mapping. Heretofore the guidelines have only been distributed to the field men and supervisors immediately associated with the program. In view of the wide interest and apparent need, this report was written for wider distribution. A number of illustrations and photographs have been included to make the report more meaningful to individuals in? terested in the program but not necessarily closely connected with it. The guidelines have been developed in co-operation with the provinces, federal agencies and university staff who are or have been en? gaged in the program. Particular thanks are due to the members of the National Committee on Forest Land, a federal-provincial advisory committee, who have accepted the responsibility for periodically reviewing the system and recommending additions or changes. As the mapping progresses further changes will become necessary; depending on the frequency and nature of the changes the report will be revised from time to time.
