Abstract: Public and professional awareness of the impacts of forest resource development on fish and watershed values has increased dramatically over the past decade. Proper planning and implementation of soil erosion and sediment control procedures is an integral part of forest resource management. In co-operation with the Fish/Forestry Interaction Program, Ministry of Forests' Forest Science Research Branch, and Fletcher Challenge Canada Ltd., Terrasol developed a formal approach to soil erosion and sediment control planning for managed forest watersheds in British Columbia. The approach presented in this paper was implemented on an operational basis in British Columbia, and moves sediment and erosion control operations from being post-damage "band-aid" treatments into an active, cost effective mitigation program.
