As part of the Integrated Wildlife Intensive Forestry program for Vancouver Island, this problem analysis was designed to evaluate the ability of Landsat image data to provide a wildlife habitat classification system. Preliminary examination of the success of Landsat image data application indicated that image analysis is best suited for broad vegetational mapping, resource monitoring, and as the initial step in a multistage sampling process. This report includes an introduction to the principles of Landsat and the description and capabilities of analogue and digital analysis techniques and systems.
