Abstract: The re-establishment success of lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta var. latifolia) in the Very Dry Central Montane Spruce (MSd), the Very Dry Southern Sub-Boreal Spruce (SBSa), and the Sub-Boreal Spruce b (SBSb) subzones of the Chilcotin is investigated. Adequate stocking with well-spaced stems in the MSd does not appear to be guaranteed under present harvest and silvicultural techniques. Total stocking levels appear to be high in all three subzones. However, a detailed evaluation of stem numbers beyond which juvenile productivity is significantly reduced would enable more accurate assessment of the extent of this problem. Literature pertaining to natural lodgepole pine regeneration and juvenile density management is summarized, and areas of future research are recommended.
